Dedicated Speech Generating Device

A Dedicated Speech Generating Device (SGD) is a communication system that is specifically configured to function solely for speech generation. Unlike general-purpose tablets or computers, dedicated SGDs are locked to restrict access to non-communication features such as internet browsing, games, video conferencing, or productivity apps. These devices are designed to support individuals with significant speech impairments and meet the requirements set by Medicare and other funding agencies for medical necessity and coverage. At Forbes AAC, our dedicated SGDs are clearly marked with a “D” in the product name and are issued with all non-covered functionality restricted at the time of delivery.

Forbes AAC is FDA-registered as a Medical Device Manufacturer. Our ProSlate 8, ProSlate 10, ProSlate 13, ProSlate 13 Enable Eyes, WinSlate, WinSlate Enable Eyes, and Lightwriter devices have been evaluated and approved by Palmetto GBA. These devices have met all necessary criteria to be classified as Dedicated Speech-Generating Devices.
