Language Development Kits

The perfect speech generating device accessory has arrived! Now children can learn to use their speech generating device to acquire language through natural and motivating experiences. What is more natural and motivating to a child than PLAY?

With play-based learning in mind, Forbes AAC has created Language Development Kits as a companion accessory to your speech generating device. Using play-based motivators and professionally developed Clinical Protocols, the development kits create a systematic pathway to language acquisition. Users can interact and control sensory toys using touch, switch, head mouse or even eye-tracking access.

See what clinicians are saying about the Language Development Kits in the testimonials below.

Language Development Kits include:

  • Interactive sensory toys - choose from the seven options below

  • Clinical Protocols - Developed by Speech and Language Pathologists who specialize in AAC, Clinical Protocols provide a systematic approach to language acquisition using AAC. Protocols include lesson plans, goal banks, and data tracking sheets. By using the Clinical Protocol, clinicians will experience higher levels of language acquisition through AAC intervention.

  • Ready-to-use Gridsets - Professionally developed, WinSlate compatible gridsets specific to each activity. Gridsets are fully programmed with infrared commands and activity specific vocabulary for use with the Clinical Protocols.

Language Development Kits are available as accessories to our speech generating device; a WinSlate device is required for use.

Testimonials

In the short time since the creation and release of the Language Development Kit, we have had rave reviews from clinicians in the field! Here are a couple of them:

"...we love the Language Kits! They are so wonderful. We began working on a few pages to make modifications for different levels and to be more visually supportive for our CVI population. For example, using the pink dog page we created a duplicate page set with fewer buttons, added a high contrast background, etc. We also modified the “talk” pages to use some fun phrases for play and recorded speech on a few of the buttons. I just thought I would fill you in on how we were using it. I know you have SLPs working on those pages... they might be interested in how these were being used in treatment. We are so excited about this new option for kids when trialing devices and participating in developmental play."

Elizabeth W., MA, CCC-SLP

"...I had to share a very cool story with you. We saw a teen yesterday working on access. She has been showing maybe 1-5 intentional movements in a 1-hour session. Yesterday we got the robo pet toys out and she had over 80 activations on the switch in our hour session! So, I want to thank you sooo much for the toys, programming those pagesets, and providing us with the opportunity to see such great potential! Those language development kits are amazing!"
